300 Games this weekend for a club legend!

We had #TV300 in 2018/19, #Boomer300 in 2020/21 and this year it’s #Stinga300! Yes, this week Ramon “Stinga” Dobb joins ten Sharks’ legends that have reached the 300 milestone game mark. Stinga joined the Sharks before they were Sharks, in October 1974 as an 11 year old playing in the Washington CC U14s along with older brother Mal and best mate Bluey McLean. He played his first senior game in Round 11 1976/77 in the 3rds – teammates on the day included Teddy Fraser, Derry Rafferty, Leigh Watkin (aka Howard Leigh notable sports journo and Boxing Ringmaster extraordinaire) and fellow U14 Col Gray.
Looking at the available records in the archives, Stinga made 4 in that first game and looks like he may have left his teammate Col stranded not out 0! Apparently he also put in a sterling performance at Mid Off. There’s been a lot of cricket since then, including plenty of ups and and a few downs. Stinga raced to 175 games in 95/96 and then 6 years of playing part time (due to work, kids and Uni), then 10 years off, and a return in season 2011/12.
The highlights include the 1989/90 Longmuir Shield Flag, making 76 batting all of Day 2 and half an hour either side on Days 1 and 3; making his maiden century in the Longmuir Shield in 93/94; H Grade Premiership in 2013/14 and SECA Batting Average of 159.5, various other batting awards, Junior Champion in 76/77, Life Member, Past President and Vice President, junior coach for many years and Chief Editor of The Shark Report in the 90s and Shark Bites for the past 10 years and social media guru the past few years – hang on a minute, who’s writing this!!?? Congrats on a long and fruitful time with the Sharks, and with hamstrings & calves willing, many more to come.

As the 11th Sharks’ player to reach 300 games, Stinga joins the following legends – Ian Good 402 games, Chris Gorrie 395 not out, Paul Dwyer 385, Peter Hedrick (RIP) 384, Peter Tyrrell 356, Daryl Meaklim 318 not out, Alan Rolfe 313, Allan Logan 311, Tony Verrall 302 and Kevin Ryan 301
